As many know when the Ford Maverick debuted, it didn't as coupe like it was in the 1970s, but rather as a hybrid compact truck. The automaker took an old name and gave it new life, and that might be what is in store for other future hybrids or EVs.
The automaker field trademarks on names like the Ford Capri, Escort, Cortina and Orion, which are former Ford vehicles in the states or abroad. It could be just making sure they have the name rights, but with the expansion of the hybrid and electric vehicle lineup coming in the future, these old names might get a new look, feel and new generation to enjoy them.
